01Booking & Arrival

Booking & Arrival

Why book directly instead of through a portal?

Booking directly is cheaper. No commission, no markup. For changes or questions you reach us directly — no detour via a portal.

Can I cancel free of charge?

That depends on the rate booked. With flexible rates, free cancellation is possible until 6:00 pm on the day of arrival. The exact conditions are shown during booking — before you confirm, not after.

From what time can I check in?

Check-in is from 3:00 pm. If you arrive earlier, you are welcome to leave your luggage with us. Earlier room access is possible subject to availability, at no extra charge.

By what time do I have to check out?

Check-out by 11:00 am. Later check-out is possible subject to availability, at no extra charge — just ask at reception.

Is there parking?

18 free parking spaces right by the building. No reservation needed.

Can I charge my electric car?

Yes. There is an 11 kW charging station at the building — for a fee. Please speak to us at reception on arrival.

How do I get there without a car?

By train to Goslar (IC/ICE stop), then continue by bus into the Upper Harz. During your stay you travel for free on bus and train throughout the entire Upper Harz with the HATIX ticket — included with your Harz guest card.

How does check-in work?

At present we welcome you in person — daily from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm. You receive your RFID card and the digital guest directory straight to your smartphone. A contactless self check-in via smartphone is in preparation.

Is there Wi-Fi? What is the password?

Wi-Fi is free and accessible without a password — simply connect, no code. The guest Wi-Fi currently offers around 30 MB/s. By the end of June 2026 we will switch on a symmetric fibre-optic connection (1 Gbit/s) — after which around 100 MB/s in the guest Wi-Fi is realistic.

Is there a lift?

No. The ground floor is accessible at street level, the first floor and basement via stairs. If mobility is a concern: please choose a ground-floor room when booking — we are happy to help with room assignment.

Are dogs allowed?

Yes. Dogs are welcome — for a surcharge of €15 per night. When booking directly, simply add the dog add-on. Our dog-friendly rooms — including room 19 — are on the upper floor and reachable only via stairs. If climbing stairs with a dog is a concern, please contact us in advance.

Is there a tennis facility at the hotel?

Next to the hotel there is a tennis hall, which is however not accessible to guests and not part of the hotel operation.

What is the digital guest directory?

After check-in you receive a link on your smartphone. It contains: Wi-Fi access details, sauna times, food delivery recommendations, excursion tips and direct contact to reception. No paper, everything instantly at hand.

How does room access work?

Via RFID card. No metal key, no chip. You receive the card at check-in and return it at check-out.

When is payment made?

The guest contribution is collected at check-in. The room bill and extras (breakfast, honesty bar, delivery service) are settled at check-out.

05Guest Contribution & Harz Guest Card

Guest Contribution & Harz Guest Card

What is the guest contribution?

A municipal levy that we collect on behalf of the mining and university town of Clausthal-Zellerfeld. It funds the local tourism infrastructure: Racepark, Ski-Alpinum, hiking trails, Vita-Parcours. In return you receive the Harz guest card and the HATIX ticket.

How much is the guest contribution?

Adults: €3.00 per person and night. Children and teenagers (6–17 years): €1.65. Children up to 5 years: free. The 3rd and every further child liable to the contribution in a family or for single parents is also free.

What is the HATIX ticket?

The HATIX ticket entitles you to free use of public transport throughout the entire Upper Harz for every day of your stay. No need to buy a ticket, just get on board.

What do I get for the guest contribution?

The Harz guest card and the HATIX ticket. The HATIX ticket entitles you to free bus travel throughout the entire Upper Harz. The guest card gives discounts in around 50 Harz towns — from a free thermal spa to half price at the leisure pool.

Does the Harz guest card only apply in Schulenberg?

No — around 50 Harz towns take part. You will receive the full list of benefits at check-in. Three direct highlights: Thermalsole Heißer Brocken Altenau free (5 km), Oberharzer Bergwerksmuseum Clausthal free (8 km), Kaiserpfalz Goslar free (25 km).

Are children exempt from the guest contribution?

Children up to and including 5 years pay nothing. From their 6th birthday the children's rate applies (€1.65/night). The 3rd and every further child liable to the contribution in a family is free.

Who else is exempt?

People staying in the collection area exclusively for work or training can be exempted on request. Contact: Kurbetriebsgesellschaft „Die Oberharzer“ mbH, tel. +49 5328 80221.

06Sauna & Activities

Is the sauna included?

Yes — free for all overnight guests. Sauna towels are provided. Opening hours: daily 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Is there a swimming pool?

Our pool in the basement is currently not yet in operation. We reopened the house in May 2026 after a longer closure and are bringing the wellness area back into operation step by step. With the pool, water quality and a fully restored filter system take priority — we cannot yet name a firm date for reopening.

What is the Vita-Parcours?

A fitness trail right by the hotel — free, accessible at any time. Strengthening, stretching and coordination exercises at open-air stations along a forest path. Ideal as a morning round before breakfast.

What are the three best benefits of the Harz guest card?

1. Thermal brine & sauna at the Heißer Brocken, Altenau — completely free (5 km). 2. Oberharzer Bergwerksmuseum, Clausthal-Zellerfeld — free entry (8 km). 3. Indoor and leisure pool with sauna in Braunlage — 50% discount (20 km). Plus: free bus travel everywhere in the Upper Harz with the HATIX ticket.

What can I do in bad weather?

The Thermalsole Heißer Brocken in Altenau is weather-protected and free with the guest card (5 km). The Oberharzer Bergwerksmuseum leads underground — rain irrelevant (8 km, free). The Kaiserpfalz Goslar and the Rammelsberg mine offer a full day of culture (25 km). And the sauna in the house is an option anyway.

Can you cycle or ride MTB nearby?
